Radiofrequency Vein Ablation (RFA) – This is a minimally invasive treatment that uses heat to close off the diseased vein. A local anesthesia will be given in the area of catheter insertion. Once the vein is accessed, the catheter will be advanced to the treatment starting point. A series of shots will be given in order to numb the entire path of the catheter. Once numb, the vein is then sealed shut and the catheter is removed.

Most patients resume normal daily activities within a few days. Post-procedure, keep your bandages dry and remove after 48 hours. During those initial 48 hours, get up and walk for 10 mins during every hour that you are awake to encourage circulation. Please avoid prolonged sitting or standing, and elevate your legs at least three times per day for 5-10 minutes for the first week post procedure. Avoid strenuous activity such as aerobics, weight training, bicycling, or running for two weeks.
